About the activity:

Pridhamsleigh Caving makes for a great adventure at any time of year. Pridhamsleigh Cavern is a naturally formed sporting cave located close to Buckfastleigh in South Devon, ideal for beginners looking to try caving, or simply a half day trip for family and friends to experience a very fun muddy adventure, be amazed by the underground world, and see one of Britain’s largest underground lakes.

For experienced, adventurous cavers, there are several more challenging routes we can explore, as well as nearby Dog Hole Cave.

As an all-weather activity , caving at Pridhamsleigh Cavern also makes an excellent alternative activity on a bad weather day. Our Devon caves do not flood as they are high above the water table with no active streamways to fill them up, making for a reliable activity at any time.

A popular option is to combine Caving with Half Day Climbing or Abseiling to make a super-fun multi-activity adventure day! There may be a discount for booking two half day activities together as a full 1 day combination. Please enquire for details.

Objectives of caving at Pridhamsleigh Cavern:

  • Safe, fun, educational adventure
  • Confidence-building
  • Team work
  • Learning about cave science and geology
  • Climbing and movement practice

Included in your caving trip at Pridhamsleigh Cavern:

  • Highly qualified and experienced caving guide
  • Cave entry fee
  • Use of all essential caving equipment such as caving suit, belt, helmet, torch and wellington boots.
  • Unless otherwise stated, the Pridhamsleigh Caving trip will be run privately for you, meaning you benefit from a personalised activity, focusing on your individual interests, ability and goals.

All you will need to bring:

  • Comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting wet and muddy such as a dark-coloured T-shirt and leggings/long trousers, and a lightweight jumper if you feel the cold (please note – the mud will stain light coloured clothing!)
  • It is recommended to bring a change of clothes to change into afterwards
  • A snack, plus drink and packed lunch (for full day activities)
  • Your parent or guardian to accompany you if you are a child
  • Your sense of adventure!

Previous experience:

No caving experience is necessary. A good level of mobility is important as caving is likely to involve crouching, crawling and easy scrambling on uneven and slippery ground. There are many walking passages and chambers in Pridhamsleigh and small holes can be avoided (or sought out!) as each person in your party wishes. Caving is suitable for adults and children. We have taken many special needs groups caving in Pridhamsleigh and it can prove a highly rewarding experience for all.

Testimonials:

“Family Caving at Pridhamsleigh Cavern
We’re a family of 5 ( 2 adults plus 7, 9, 12year old)
My partner booked this as he’s always want to have a go. Myself and my eldest were nervous as this isn’t something we would of chosen but we’ll give anything a try and all I can say was… it was amazing!!
Mike reassured us so much. He is very knowledgeable with loads of experience.
He supported my 7 year old in the cave and was very good with our children which meant a lot.
We had an amazing time. I can’t believe I even did this.
He answered all our questions.
It was so good were now booking another cave with him!
I would really recommend him.
If you’re old, young, nervous he will help and support you while telling you so many interesting facts.
100% do it if you thinking about it :)”

“Caving in Devon
Just got back from a caving trip guided by Mike, it was a brilliant experience.
I’d never been in a cave before but I can’t wait to get back, if you are in the area and looking for a way to spend the day I can’t recommend it more!”

“I was encouraged by my grandsons to go caving with Mike in Buckfastleigh… I actually was rather anxious at 72 years of age! But with Mike’s gentle encouragement he gave me the confidence to explore this amazing site right here on our home territory. If you’re here on holiday this is something not to miss out on. Especially as Mike is so knowledgeable and experienced. Very proud that I managed it! Thanks Mike!”

“I highly recommend Mike at Rock and Moor. We absolutely loved our caving experience! We are looking forward to booking our next adventure soon! Thanks Mike!”

“Went on a caving trip guided by Mike, it was absolutely brilliant. All kit was provided, all we had to do was turn up! Now I just need to get some people together to do it again!”

“Last week was a fantastic adventure with Rock and Moor. I went on my second trad lead development course with Mike. He is a very skilled and patient instructor. I became much more confident in leading harder climbs and gained better knowledge regarding safety features. We also tried caving for the first time. I thought caving would not be my favourite activity, but I surprisingly really enjoyed it. Mike made us feel safe the whole time, which allowed us to relax and enjoy our time in the caves. I highly recommend Rock and Moor whether you want to develop your climbing, caving skills, or are just looking for a fun adventure!”

The youngest was 5 and the oldest 67 of my party. We all had a great time. Mike explained everything before we went in. I would have no hesitation doing anything with Mike again”.

“Toby and I just wanted to say another huge thank you to Mike for this afternoon’s caving – definitely the best we have done and we both think Mike was great! Toby is already talking about Swildon’s Hole or coming back for Bakers Pit..”

Mike took us on an adventure through Pridhamsleigh cavern. It was challenging, interesting and exhilarating. He took fantastic photos and videos of us too so we can remember the experience. His guidance was super friendly and knowledgeable, I highly recommend a trip with Rock and Moor.”
