About the Rock Climbing Skills Refresher course:
Are you already a rock climber, but want to refresh and update your skills with current best practice?
- Perhaps you’re relatively new to climbing and have learnt some trad skills from friends or through a climbing or mountaineering club. You are leading your way up through the grades – but just want to check you’re performing techniques safely.
- Or, you might simply be looking to improve your multi pitch climbing efficiency, with bigger adventures in mind.
- Maybe you started climbing decades ago and have never done any formal problem-solving training, and want to learn how it’s done from a professional’s point of view.
- Are you feeling a bit rusty, having had a break from outdoor climbing – and want to ensure you’re safe before taking friends or family out on the rock.
- You might be in the consolidation period before your next qualification such as RCI, RCDI or MCI and want to gain experience, whilst under observation by an MCI qualified instructor. In doing so, this course will allow you to practice, whilst gaining valuable feedback. We can help to pick up on skills or techniques for you to focus on, and assist with your preparations.
After a chat about your previous experience and what you would like to gain from the course, we will initially check where you’re at with the fundamentals and work on any bad habits, and then refine and polish or teach you skills to help you achieve your desired goals.
This rock climbing refresher course will normally take place in Devon, but may be Cornwall on request (please let us know your preference when you enquire).
This is a personalised course to suit your objectives, and can also be organised for shorter or longer durations. Please contact us to discuss your goals!

Previous experience:
This course is suited to rock climbers wishing to brush up on their skills, whether that be the basics, intermediate or advanced level technical skills. If you are completely new at outdoor rock climbing, a Rock Climbing Taster, and/or Safe Second course may be better suited to you to focus on teaching you the fundamentals. However, if you’ve done a little bit – or a lot – of outdoor climbing but want to ensure you’re doing things the right way according to current best practice, this course is right for you.
