About the activity:

South Dartmoor is home to some amazing, relatively short easy level walks to see the granite tors. Equally the upper Dart Gorge is one of our personal favourites for more challenging walks, with tranquil pools to rushing waterfalls, a steep wooded valley with limited access up the sides makes this guided walk feel like a real adventure away from most visitors. There are also many walk options to stretch your legs around and across the South Moor. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch for more information and suggestions, or to discuss any guided walks you have in mind.

Examples of South Dartmoor walks:

  • Upper Dart
  • Iconic Tors of the South Moor
  • Across the Moor – South Brent to Princetown

Included:

  • Highly experienced and qualified walks leader

All you will need to bring:

  • Clothing which can be worn in layers, including a warm jumper in all seasons
  • Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers
  • Waterproof walking boots
  • Warm hat and gloves in Autumn/Winter/Spring
  • Sunhat/cap in Summer
  • Suncream
  • Sunglasses
  • Headtorch and spare batteries
  • Water bottle (at least 2 litres)
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Personal first aid kit
  • Your spirit of adventure

If you have walking poles, it can be a good idea to bring them. Gaiters also help to keep your feet dry and protect your lower legs/trousers from spiky plants. A flask with hot drink can be worth its weight in gold!

Physicality:

The level of walk you wish to take will be discussed with you and tailored to your requirements as far as possible. Although there are easier possibilities, many of Dartmoor’s best walking takes place over rough, hilly and often boggy terrain, sometimes off the beaten track, and may have small rivers to cross, over slippery surfaces. The length in distance will depend on the exact route taken, and we will keep the pace at a level to suit you, so that you can enjoy the sights along the way, whilst bearing in mind the ground that needs to be covered (short cuts may be possible if needs be).

Previous experience:

Previous walks on hilly and uneven ground, taking in several miles would be helpful (although not necessary), as would well worn-in walking boots.
