About the activity:

The North Devon and its Culm Coast is unique in its geology and feels very different to South Devon and Cornwall coast paths. The coastline is very varied between Minehead and Bude where Exmoor plunges hundreds of feet into the sea. The rocky coast is interspersed with sandy coves from Ilfracombe to Bideford, where the path rises and falls drastically as you go onto Clovelly and Heartland with the amazing shear slides of rock tilted up out of the seabed. Marvel at some of Devon’s most adventurous sea cliff climbing spots, while kestrels hover overhead and seals play in the kelp-filled sea gullies. We can organise and guide any sections of this dramatic coastline in a day or multi-day adventure.

EXAMPLES:

  • Porlock to Lynmouth
  • Lynton to Combe Martin via the Valley Of The Rocks
  • Clovelly to Heartland Quay

Included:

  • Highly experienced and qualified walks leader

All you will need to bring:

  • Clothing which can be worn in layers, including a warm jumper in all seasons
  • Waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers
  • Waterproof walking boots
  • Warm hat and gloves in Autumn/Winter/Spring
  • Sunhat/cap in Summer
  • Suncream
  • Sunglasses
  • Headtorch and spare batteries
  • Water bottle (at least 2 litres)
  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Personal first aid kit
  • Your spirit of adventure

If you have walking poles, it can be a good idea to bring them. A flask with hot drink can be worth its weight in gold!

Physicality:

The level of walk you wish to take will be discussed with you and tailored to your requirements as far as possible. Much of the Devonshire coast is hilly and can be muddy, slippery and uneven underfoot. The length in distance will depend on the exact route taken, and we will keep the pace at a level to suit you, so that you can enjoy the sights along the way, whilst bearing in mind the ground that needs to be covered (short cuts may be possible if needs be).

Previous experience:

Previous walks on hilly and uneven ground, taking in several miles would be helpful (although not necessary), as would well worn-in walking boots.
