About the guided rock climbing day:
Let’s go Climbing!
Perhaps you’re in Devon on holiday and you want to experience some of the classic single or multi-pitch climbs the county has to offer. Or maybe you’ve been climbing at an indoors gym for some time and want to get a feeling for real rock. Transferring your indoor climbing wall skills to roped climbing routes outside is an exciting pathway!
There are many awesome single and multi-pitch trad climbs of varying difficulties amongst the crags on Dartmoor and coastal sea cliffs of Devon and Cornwall. These make a great introduction to real rock climbing, using traditional climbing ethics.
There are also plenty of intermediate to hard sport climbing options to cut your teeth on when climbing in Devon and Dorset, and we would be delighted guide you. Whatever your wishes and level, we will help you get out rock climbing!
After a chat about your previous experience, and wishes, we will plan the day accordingly. We will then practice the skills required in the context of the climbs we do; however the emphasis is to get you out and having a great time on the rock.

Testimonials for our guided rock climbing day:
“Absolute 10/10 experience. I booked a surprise climbing instruction day with Mike for my partner’s birthday (we do indoor bouldering and this was our first go at outdoor climbing).
Mike was so patient, easy going and attentive, giving us a ropes 101 then getting into the climbs. He has an easy instructional touch and great intuition, giving tips where they’re needed but equally leaving us to it to problem solve where we were comfortable doing that.
Mike was super generous with his time. We got in loads of climbing and he helped us progress to some trickier climbs that I wouldn’t have thought we were up to! It seems he can just scale the day to work to any ability level.
Helen was great to deal with throughout the booking process – responsive and engaged to make sure we were all set for an epic day out.
Can’t recommend this enough and we’ll absolutely be back for follow up days out! Thanks Mike and Helen, you’ve both been lovely to deal with.”
“Definitely the right choice!
I booked a climbing day with Mike as a surprise for my husband’s birthday.
Communication with Rock and Moor was fantastic, always quick to respond and I instantly felt confident in my choice of guide. He tailored the day to suit our amateur ability whilst also enabling us to feel safe to push ourselves, packing in plenty of climbing, leaving us with a feeling of achievement and happy exhaustion by the end of it.
A real personal touch was the birthday cake that emerged from Mike’s backpack during a break- such a nice touch!
We would definitely recommend and look forward to booking more adventures with Rock and Moor in the future.”
“Couldn’t fault the brilliant day of climbing with Mike. His knowledge and experience made me feel completely safe and at ease. He seemed to find the perfect level for my ability to challenge me just enough. All surrounded by stunning Dartmoor scenery.”
“An excellent day’s trad climbing with Mike. Not having climbed outdoors for many years, Mike was very patient while teaching me current best practice. Mike quickly assessed my ability and offered routes that challenged me but were achievable.”
“Mike is a fantastic teacher and gets the balance exactly right between developing new skills and keeping the climbing safe. Great day and will be back for more!“
“We had the most incredible day with Mike at Dewerstone, where he supported us in our first multipitch trad climbing experience. He provided us with enough opportunity to test our strength and ability whilst having fun on the rock. Thank you Mike, we can’t wait to come back and do more training with you soon!“
“This is my third time going out with Mike in the last 3 months and he’s helped me go from someone who had never rock climbed before to seconding HVS 5a. I have felt a real sense of accomplishment at the end of each session. There are always plenty of tips and advice to go away with and practice between days out, which means the learning doesn’t stop when the ropes are in the van at the end of the day. Looking forward to my next trip out already.
It was great to get onto some tougher climbs and really push myself. Through conversations throughout the day Mike adapted instruction style and goals to help me get the most out of the day. Always felt safe and encouraged to keep going. Mike was very adaptable to my learning needs throughout the day”.
“Mike is a good teacher and extremely knowledgeable. I felt the day was at a good pace to learn and take everything in that was being taught. I highly recommend Rock and Moor.”
